This sonata uses a three note motive in the treble which is answered immediately by a two note motive in the tenor or bass range. This five note idea is developed throughout the piece. The form for this sonata is AAB. The B section is really a modified A section but sounds freer and more improvisatory. The A sections begin with an expressive melody which varies the five note motive, and ends with faster scales in the right hand. The overall impression is one of variation and development.
